It’s actually very important to treat gum diseases, and isn’t taken seriously enough. Not only is gum disease the number one cause of tooth loss, but research has also linked oral bacterial infections to cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, and other chronic health conditions.
Understanding your treatment options starts with understanding what’s causing your gum disease in the first place. It all starts with biofilm. The growth of bacterial communities in periodontal pockets occurs in three stages. After the fist stage of attachment, bacteria multiply to form bioform covered in a slimy protective layer. During the most advanced stage of bacterial growth, clumps of bioform detach in a seeding effect to spread and form new infections.
To treat periodontal disease, we recommend to treat it with full mouth debridements, cleanings to be done every 3-4 months vs 6, and a wonderful at home treatment called Perio Protect®. It gives you the the ability to treat the bacteria it at it’s source on a daily basis, & in the comfort of your own home.
On top of your regular scheduled cleanings (every 3-4 months for perio patients), we offer Perio Protect Trays LLC. The customized Perio Tray® has a unique sealing system that keeps the medication below the gum line to fight infections. This is extremely importance since the oral biofilms grow so easily where the toothbrush and floss cannot reach.
